Are Heat Pump Shields and Roofs needed in the Bridgewater NS area

Heat pump wind screens, shields, and roofs/canopies may or may not be required on the outdoor portion of your heat pump system in the Bridgewater NS area, and South Shore Nova Scotia Region. Here are some factors I will list that you should consider before deciding to add those features:
- Are there heavy sustained winds blowing at your unit?
-Are you located very close to the Ocean or a big lake where heavy strong, sustained winds are common?
-Is your outdoor unit located in a hard to reach area, where clearing off built up snow from a storm might be difficult?
-Do you have any health or physical condition that hinder you from going outside to the heat pump location?
-Do you have friends or family close by that could assist you in clearing snow away?
-Does a lot water runoff from your roof land on your heat pump?

Those are some things to consider mentioned above. If you decide you want to go with a wind shield, or cover top, you should be very careful who does that job for you. A local handyman may cause you a lot of grief if he puts a screw through your unit or refrigerant line. If he builds the structure so that it restricts the air movement needed around the unit, that could damage your unit or drastically lower your efficiency. Another thing that has to be taken into account is designing these top covers and wind screens, so that they can easily be removed to allow access to the system for maintenance and repair. At Collie HVAC, we design and customize each top cover and or wind shield or screen to blend in with your unit and your home. I have seen many prefab covers and screens installed on a home that simply look like a real eye sore! If you want any more info regarding this matter, you can send us an email at colliehvac@gmail.com, or call 905-523-4822 . If you are in the Bridgewater, Nova Scotia area, we could even stop by your home to take a quick look and give you a free quote.
